"Golbasto Momaren Evlame Gurdilo Shefin Mully Ully Gue, Most Mighty Emperor of Lilliput, Delight and Terror of the Universe, whose Empire stretches five thousand blustrugs (about twelve miles) to the edge of the globe, taller than the sons of men, feared by the princes of the earth, pleasant as spring, comfortable as summer, fruitful as autumn, dreadful as winter. His Majesty proposes the following articles, to which the Man Mountain shall swear an oath.

1: The Man Mountain shall not leave our country without our permission (Человек-Гора не должен покидать нашу страну без нашего позволения).

From this the reader may get an idea of how clever these people were.

I was wearing my short waistcoat, afraid that my long coat might damage the roofs of the houses. I walked with great care to avoid treading on any people who might still be in the streets. All the top windows of the houses were crowded with people waiting to see me. I had never seen more people crowded into one place in all my travels.

The city is an exact square. Each side is five hundred feet long. The two main streets, which divide the city into quarters, are five feet wide. I could not enter the lanes and alleys, which are only twelve to eighteen inches wide. The town can house about five hundred thousand people. The houses are from three to five stories high and the many shops and markets are well stocked.

I wanted to see the inner courtyard with the royal apartments, but this was extremely difficult because the main gates were only eighteen inches high and seven inches wide. The buildings of the outer courtyard, however, were at least five feet high and it was impossible for me to climb over them without the risk of damaging them.

He told me that, whatever his country seemed like to someone from another country (он сообщил мне, что, какой бы ни казалась его страна человеку: «кому-нибудь» из другой страны), it suffered from two evils (она /однако/ страдает от двух бед). He told me that, whatever his country seemed like to someone from another country, it suffered from two evils. These were called Tramecksan and Slamecksan, after the high and low heels on their shoes. It was said that although the High-Heels agreed with the country's ancient laws, His Majesty had only Low-Heels in his government.

The hatred between these two parties was so strong (ненависть между этими двумя партиями столь сильна = велика) that they wouldn't eat or drink together (что они не станут ни есть, ни пить вместе = за одним столом; wouldn't = would not).
